Templates
During class and in the first chapter, we discussed templates. I wanted to address all of social media and the templates that social media tends to follow. I remember Dr. Hope stating how with social media we typically find the post or the feed first, then the comments come afterwards. I was thinking how interesting it was for social media to work with that template. How we have to acknowledge the post or feed before we can see other people's opinions and feedback. I wonder if there will ever be a time where social media swaps that template, and a sneak peak of the comments are first and then the post follows. I ask that because I feel as if despite the comments being viewed second, from my own experience everyone tends to at least glance at the comments. I know I always look at what other people have to say.
I wanted to specifically address the social media app: TikTok. Whenever I scroll through TikTok I find myself immediately jumping to the comments whenever I have a thought about what I am watching. Oddly enough, I tend to find other people commenting the similar thoughts that I had. However another similarity that I found is the fact that so many people jump to comments on TikTok without fully watching the video. I find comments all the time saying "I immediately jumped to the comments." or "You can see their face above the comment section." and "Heart this if you are hiding in the comments." I thought that this was interesting because TikTok is the only platform where the template is built where you can look at the comments while the video plays. I am curious if that is what keeps TikTok so successful. That the platform will allow you to see everyone's thoughts and opinions all while the video continues to play.
